Two design houseboats. One rare place on the Rhine.

Sleep on the water — not beside it. Burgflotte’s stationary floating homes lie in the sheltered Marina Rheinlicht in Lorch am Rhein, with four castles in view from the jetty and the Upper Middle Rhine Valley all around you.

Modern 1 pairs a double cabin with a bunk-bed cabin; Modern 2 offers two double cabins. Both include a sofa bed and welcome up to six guests, with four being the most relaxed fit. Each stay includes a private rooftop terrace, Wi-Fi, bed linen, towels and two guaranteed parking spaces beside the marina.

Book from two nights. Your full price — including cleaning, VAT and the local tourism contribution — is shown before checkout.

Quietly moored. Genuinely on the Rhine.

Modern 1 and Modern 2 float in the sheltered water behind Lorcher Werth. This protected position keeps both homes reassuringly calm and stable, while Rhine ships pass at a comfortable distance.

Step onto the jetty and the view opens towards four castles, vineyards and wooded hills. Mornings belong to birdsong and soft river light; evenings to the rooftop terrace and the changing colours of the valley. Geese and cormorants are regular neighbours, while storks, beavers and kingfishers reward the lucky observer. Fishing and birdwatching are possible right by the marina.

Inside, floor-to-ceiling windows, a private rooftop terrace, a complete kitchen, heating and air conditioning, Wi-Fi, bed linen and towels make the unusual setting effortless. The homes are stationary, so no boating licence is required.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a boating licence?

No. Modern 1 and Modern 2 are stationary houseboats and remain securely moored in Marina Rheinlicht. They are not driven, so you need neither a boating licence nor experience at the helm. You enjoy staying directly on the water without taking responsibility for operating a vessel.

How calm and stable is the houseboat?

The marina lies in sheltered water behind the Lorcher Werth island. This keeps both houseboats calm and reassuringly stable. Large Rhine vessels pass at a distance: you can watch the river traffic without it feeling intrusive. The houseboats are also well insulated, including against sound.

Where can I park?

Two free parking spaces are guaranteed for each houseboat directly at the marina. This keeps the walk with luggage short, and the spaces are included in your stay rather than booked separately. If you need any additional arrival information, please contact us before setting off.

How do I reach Burgflotte without a car?

Lorch station is about 500 metres away. Until 12 December 2026, rail-replacement buses serve the station during the railway renewal, with additional express buses between Wiesbaden, Rüdesheim and Koblenz. Check current connections in DB Navigator. If you are unsure about your journey, please contact us.

How do I get aboard — are there steps?

Access is via a gangway leading onto the jetty. There are no steps on the jetty or inside the houseboat; those areas are level. The property is not fully accessible, however. If you are unsure whether the conditions suit you, please contact us before booking.

What does a stay cost for four or six guests?

Prices vary by season, weekday and party size. The displayed base price covers two guests; from the third guest, €28 per person and night is added. Cleaning, 7% VAT and the €2 tourism contribution per private adult and night are shown before you book.

When is check-in and check-out?

Check-in is available from 4 pm on all available arrival days, and check-out is by noon. This leaves time for an unhurried arrival and a relaxed final morning. If your travel schedule is unusual, contact us in advance and we will check what is operationally possible.

Are dogs allowed?

No, pets are not permitted in Modern 1 or Modern 2. This helps us keep the interiors consistently well cared for and preserves the quiet character of the accommodation. Please take this into account when planning your trip. Contact us before booking if any house-rule question remains.

What is the difference between Modern 1 and Modern 2?

Modern 1 has a double-bed cabin, a separate bunk-bed cabin and a sofa bed, making its layout particularly convenient for families. Modern 2 has two separate double-bed cabins and a sofa bed. Both sleep up to six guests, while four is the especially comfortable arrangement.

What can I do nearby?

Burgflotte is a convenient base for walking and cycling in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley. From the houseboat you look across the Rhine, vineyards, wooded slopes and castles. Birdwatching is possible at the marina, and fishing is allowed subject to the locally required permits.

Can I swim in the Rhine?

The Rhine bank is directly beside the marina. You may enter the water there at your own risk: it is not an official bathing area, and the natural bank has no constructed access. Always assess the current, water level and your own safety very carefully on site.

Time together, beautifully uncomplicated.

For couples seeking a memorable escape, families who want to experience the Rhine from a new perspective, and friends sharing unhurried days in an exceptional setting.

The sweet spot is four guests, with generous room to relax. Up to six are welcome when a sociable, closer arrangement suits the trip. Two baby cots are available on request.

The atmosphere is private and relaxed. Parties and events are not permitted, and quiet hours protect both your stay and the special calm of the marina.

Your front-row seat to the living Rhine.

Four castles in view

The panorama begins on the jetty: castles, vineyards and wooded slopes frame the river in every season.

Sheltered water, distant ships

Lorcher Werth protects the marina, keeping the floating homes calm and stable while the working Rhine remains part of the view, not the disturbance.

Wildlife at your doorstep

Geese and cormorants are everyday companions. With luck, you may also spot storks, beavers or a flash of blue from a kingfisher. Bring binoculars — or simply sit still and watch.

World Heritage on foot and by bike

The UNESCO Upper Middle Rhine Valley, the Rheinsteig, vineyards and historic villages begin close by, so quiet time on the water pairs naturally with walks, cycling and local wine.

Nights on the Rhine.

When the last ships have passed, the water grows quiet. Lorch sits in one of the darkest stretches of the Rhine Valley, with very little light pollution. On a clear night, stars open above the vineyards; the private rooftop terrace is the loveliest place to watch. Inside, excellent insulation, including sound insulation, lets you choose how much of the night you notice.
